Art Nouveau of the nineteenth century, owned by Gaetano Terni

The Roman colony of Potentia was founded in 184 B.C. The choice of the site was influenced by a number of factors, such as the availability of fertile lands, the prossimity to the outlet of a river valley which, among other things used to be an important connection between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian sea, the presence of a river mouth that could be used as a port of call.

The imposing structure takes its name from Federico II of Sweden who in 1229 donated his lands in which rose today's Porto Recanati. The historians seem to agree in indicating the XIII century as the age of its foundation or at least the building of its keep.
